The Study of Diver’s Willingness to Pay for Ecological Conservation – the expamle of Kenting Area / 潛水者對生態保育願付價格之研究-以墾丁地區為例

碩士 / 國立高雄海洋科技大學 / 海洋事務與產業管理碩士學位學程 / 102 / A unique natural resource in Kenting is the number and size of coral reef which attracts a lot of tourist. However, the damage to coral reefs from large number of divers is increasing. This study estimates willingness to pay (WTP) of scuba divers to avoid coral bleaching for ecological conservation. A survey of 339 scuba divers at Houbihu and the Right side of Nuclear Plant III outlet in Kenting area in 2014 examined demographics, dive characteristics, environmental attitude, dive behavior, environmental behavior, and maximum WTP for the dive.
The results show that there are significant difference from diving equipment, diving experience, diving license, and gender to environmental attitude, dive behavior, environmental behavior. The environmental attitude, and dive behavior had the positive significantly influence to the environmental behavior, especially environmental attitude. Over 80% divers are willing to pay for reducing impacts of diving on coral reefs and ecological conservation. Our suggestion were to establish a system of diving guide and enhance environmental attitude by diving fee charge and environmental education to friendly environmental behavior for coral reef conservation and marine environmental protection.
