碩士 / 國立臺灣體育運動大學 / 體育研究所 / 102 / This study seeks to understand the elite athlete’s sport participation through analyzing the factors of enhancing and impeding collegiate canoe team players’ behaviors. Qualitative methods, namely, documentary analysis and in-depth interview were employed to collect data in this research. With regard to the enhancing factors, there are: 1. Family/parent domain- financial support, spiritual encouragement, entering a higher school through sports, good communication between parents and coach; 2. Coach domain- trust, social resources, coach’s personality; 3. Peer/friend- like-minded, guide and encouragement, sport skills promotion. About the impeding factors, there are: 1. Family/parent domain- economic pressure, danger of sport, diploma doctrine, parent’s involvement and bad communication with the coach; 2. Coach domain- authoritarian leadership, severe personality, bad communication between parents, athletes and coach; 3. Peer/friend- weaken will-power, concept of sport participation against leisure behavior, bad communication with the coach. Overall, this study concludes that the sports participation of collegiate canoe team players manifested in the forms of enhancement and impediment. From a social support perspective, significant actors such as family/parents, coach, and peer/friends, play important roles that directly or indirectly influence an athlete’s attitudes and behaviors during their participating process in sports.
