Farming and Economics Studies of Chinese mitten crab (Eriocheir sinensis) in Taiwan / 臺灣中華絨螯蟹養殖產業之生物經濟研究

碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 水產養殖學系 / 102 / Aquaculture industry is not only divided to biological issue, but also includes in economic issue. In views of market demand and economic benefits of the Chinese mitten crab (Eriocheir sinensis), Taiwan invested aquaculture in Chinese mitten crabs tremendously in 2003. However, farming operation and management has not matured yet, so understanding of the industry’s production and economic issue by analyzing industry’s overview, assessing economic benefit, understanding productive management of individual, in order to provide reference and know about the industry’s characteristic.
Study the biological and economic information for the farming process by questionnaire survey, and apply a statistical theory to analyze it. The results show that stocking density in the north (424.2 crabs/ha) and the south (422.4 crabs/ha) of Taiwan are the highest and all the survival rate is between 2 to 3 percent.
According to the view of productive economics, it costs about NT$ 167,481 per ha, and the north farms cost the highest which is about 207 thousands, the east farms cost lowest, which is about 78.7 hundreds. In the view of unit product cost, it costs NT$ 1,894 producing one kilogram hairy crab, in different regions, the productive cost is the highest in Miaoli County (NT$ 2,290/kilogram), and the lowest are the east and the south of Taiwan (NT$ 1,400/kilogram). It regards the cost of personnel and feed as the major costs.
In the view of selling aspect, northern Taiwan has higher selling price, which can compensate the weakness of high cost. The larger size of goods can be observed because of large stocking area and low stocking density in the middle of Taiwan, which cost less reltively. The survival rate showed great result in the south of Taiwan, but the net profit is low due to the inappropriate selling channel. the east area cost less in aquaculture, although the stocking density is low and no appropriate selling channel, but their net profit only beyond the north and the middle by internet promotion and selling personally. In addition, Miaoli County uses the brand advantage to promote the goods, however, the survival rate of Miaoli County shows the lower result and the impact of the imported crab from Mainland china which causes the selling was not expected. Remarkably, the overall survival rate and profitability are poor. The operative benefits between farmers have extremely significant difference.
In conclusion, the development of Chinese mitten crab production is limited by low survival rate, small specification of goods, incomplete marketing channel and the cutting-price impact of crab from Mainland China and so on. Therefore, it is a possible way to raise the industrial competitiveness of Chinese mitten crab in Taiwan by complete establishment of productive and selling aspect.
