碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 海洋文化研究所 / 102 / The writing formats of children oceanic fiction in Taiwan includepoints of viewof both insiders and outsiders while the transformation of character is the common characteristic. The abundance imagination is another common characteristic of children oceanic fiction in Taiwan which shown in the creation of new kinds of creature which combine the figure of human, nonhuman, and other living things. As for the writing style, most works belong to fantasy fictions and use sequential narration without complicated plots due to the simplicity of readers.
One of the topics that has often been depicted in children oceanic fiction in Taiwan is the description of the lives of fishermen. Multiple facets of ocean can be seen in the description of the struggles, setbacks, and the joy of harvest via how fishermenmove back and forth between land and ocean. In order to build strong connections with ocean, writers have given rich characteristics on ocean and created imaginative and magnificent oceanic worlds.
Another often depicted topic is the figure of whales and dolphins. First of all, whales and dolphins represent the concepts of ecological preservation and sustainability for ocean. The plots often include that whales and dolphins are hunted whether the narration is in human or animal ankles. Second, whales and dolphins represent carrier which further imply the figure of helper and companion . Lastly, children oceanic fiction writers use whales and dolphins to show love between family, lovers, and friends. All these figures enrich the discussion of whales and dolphins in children oceanic fiction in Taiwan.
Among these texts, the discussion of life and death is also included as a writing direction for children oceanic fiction in Taiwan. The discussion of oceanic accidents and deaths, and the experiencespass down from generation to generation are often written in real world setting. Deaths and disappearances in real life, and reversible life and death are often written in imaginative setting.
