A Study on the Kuroshio east of Taiwan using short-term field survey data / 應用短期船測資料探討臺灣東部黑潮水文現象

碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 海洋環境資訊系 / 102 / The purpose of this thesis is to understand the Kuroshio in the east of Taiwan. The data from three short-term field survey in 2012 is included in the research. Satellite observations, HYCOM (HYbird Coordinate Ocean Model) ocean numerical model and WOD (World Ocean Database) data are also used to verify the results from the three field surveys. The data of absolute geostrophic velocities, sea level anomalies, and brightness temperatures are derived from satellite observations. Results show that heavy precipitation and fresh water from rivers affect the surface of Kuroshio water. In addition, the affected area is no more than 100 m depth and less than 100 km from shores. The left side of Kuroshio water mass would mix with the South China Sea water mass when it intrude to the South China Sea, especially in the intermediate water. Eddies would also affect the vertically hydrological structure of Kuroshio. Cyclone eddies would prompt the low temperature water pumping to the surface. Due to the fact that the density is inversely proportional to the temperature, it makes the isopycnal lift. The anti-cyclone eddies cause the high temperature water sinking. It makes the isopycnal extend downward. The eddies affection in vertical direction derived from its structure and vortex. If the eddy’s intensity is stronger, the influence depth and area would be much higher.
