The diel variation of ciliate community in a tide-pool. / 潮池中纖毛蟲數量與群集組成的日夜變化

碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 環境生物與漁業科學學系 / 102 / We investigated the diel variation mechanism of a tide-pool ciliate community in the northeastern coastal water of Taiwan. Samples were collected in June, July and August 2013 during summer period. June and August were the typical summer weather. Sampling of July was done ten days after Typhoon Soulik. In June and August, the tide-pool ecosystem was an independent ecosystem, with a clear diel variation in abundance and species composition of ciliates. There was a dramatic increase in ciliate population (250-830 cells/L [in June], 20-250 cells/L [in August]) as well as a change in species composition (chi-squared test, p < 0.05) in daytime resulted from the excystment of ciliates. In nighttime, abundance was not noticeably varied. In July, there was no significant difference in species composition between tide-pool and surrounding coastal water (chi-squared test, p > 0.05). The abundance of tide-pool ciliate were decrease due to the inability of ciliates to adapt to the tide-pool environmental variation. From these results, we speculate that the excystment of ciliates plays an important role in the diel variation of ciliate community in a tide-pool ecosystem.
