碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 環境生物與漁業科學學系 / 102 / This study aimed to investigate time-space allocation of squid stick-helddip net fishery in the water off northeastern Taiwan using time-geographic approaches. Daily fishing logbook data and vessel’s dynamic data derived from VDR (Voyage Data Recorder) of 26 squid stick-helddip net fishing vessels were routinely obtained from Jan 2010 to Dec 2010. These data were further integrated and analyzed using GIS (Geographic Information System). Results from the analysis of cruising data from VDR indicated vessels left harbors between 15:00~18:00 and sailed at a speed of 7~11 knots before arriving fishing grounds around 18:00. Subsequently, vessels conducted fishing operations at a speed of 0~1.5 knots. Fishing operations ended at 4:00 and vessels sailed back to harbors at a speed of 7~11 knots. The main fishing season started in May and ended in August. The majority of catch comprised squids, bonitos and mackerels. In addition, fishing grounds were classified into upwelling and frontal fishing grounds based on catch rate and remote sensing-based SST (sea surface temperature). The upwelling fishing ground was located in the water area south of 26°N where CT2 (or below) vessels conducted fishing operations on a daily basis and their catch rate per 0.25°grid was 0.43~103.39 (kg/min). The frontal fishing ground was located in the water area north of 26°N where CT4 (or above) vessels conducted fishing operations and their catch rate per 0.25°grid was 0.13~12.34 (kg/min). Furthermore, results from the analysis of monthly fishing activities indicated most fishing vessels carried outa moonlight-relatedfishing moratoriumbetween 12th and 19th of every lunar month, just before and after the full moon. The moonlight-relatedfishing moratorium lasted 2~6 days for CT3-vessels and 3~8 days for CT4-vessels.
