碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 輪機工程學系 / 102 / Foreign contamination via ship’sballast water has been receiving considerable amount of attention due to the steadily growing maritime economy, where the main source of contamination is foreign biology. To combat the economic loss caused by such issue, International Maritime Organization proposed Convention for the Control and Management of Ships’ Ballast Water and Sediments (BWM Convention) in 2004, with the goal of both preventing and eliminating the invasion of foreign contaminant. It is stated in the BWM that, Different tonnage maritime vessel must possess ballast water process units upon its construction. In this thesis we investigated the sterilize efficiency of Cu ions with various concentration, where the relation between electrical conductivity, current, time and Cu ion concentration is thoroughly studied and analyzed, test subject includes microorganisms such as Escherichia coli and Enterococcus, which are typical foreign biology as the BWM Convention claims. Cu ion sterilization has been widely practiced in medical equipment as well as swimming pool maintenance. Being a fine electrical conductor, the sea water, we anticipated significant amount of synthesized Cu ion as well as powerful sterilize ability.
