碩士 / 國立雲林科技大學 / 建築與室內設計系 / 102 / The military dependents’ villages have now become a unique residence form of Taiwan. However, the conservation issues of the culture and space now are concerned because the culture and landscape image of these military dependents’ villages are fading away.
Zuoyin district owns the largest and the most concentration of single-discipline (Navy) military dependents’ villages in Taiwan. The artificial scenery that various type of building in a village is an epitome of the special development for more than a half century in the military dependents’ villages. Among these military dependents’ villages, Mingde New Village has a laudatory name called “Generals’ Village”, and the Japanese government quarters in Mingde New Village designated for the high rank Japanese officer at the very beginning. Nowadays, the dwelling environment still keeps very well, that is different from the stereotype of ordinary military dependents’ villages.
In the past, the special form and development process of tough style quarters got more attention than Japanese government quarters when a discussion on the topic of military dependents’ village in architecture field. And although the Japanese government quarters in Mingde New Village are in a favourable status, there is no record of their special form, including the usage situation and special development circumstance. Having this in mind, this research tries to realize the plan composing elements and the architectural behavior by the later inhabitants of those Japanese government quarters in Mingde New Village. In addition to gain the useful information, this research adopted field research and interview method to get the study dates in Mingde New Village.
According to the result of this research, “the difference of space concept and use behavior”, “the variation of family structure and population”, and “the limitations of Japanese government quarters’ prototype” are the major factors affecting the later inhabitants altered spacial form of Japanese government quarters in Mingde New Village.
