ABSTRACT

In this study, using early aerial photographs and historical literature to analyze the change and development of the stone tidal weir through the north coast and Tamsui. Defining the factors influence the occurrence of the stone tidal weir, using the geographic space and time period as center to analyze the explore of stone tidal weir r on the north coast and Tamsui.
The results showed that, the earliest time recorded the stone tidal weir was during Pingpu culture in Taiwan, while minority immigrant trade had happened over hundred years ago. The most important lifestyle for the immigration was agriculture; it has some relevance with the happening of the stone tidal weir. The spatial distribution was according to Juang, Wen-Shing’s stone tidal weir geographical conditions, which by using graphic to conclude north shore estuary and headland protruding parts were the most concentrated area for the stone tidal weir. It goes with the tidal currents which affect compliance of the principle of inshore fisheries.
By the above rational, this study described as four contexts. First, try to refine the north coast stone tidal weir structure through the history. Second, comparative and analysis of the public archives the presence of stone weir, its ethnic and geopolitical aerial through photographs owned by aerial photographs to reproduce during the Japanese occupation of stone tidal weir fisheries scene. Third, field exploration and interviews with seniors to make up the cultural connotation for the stone tidal weir. Fourth, a comprehensive of the above and summarize the results as follows:

I. The North Coast of stone tidal weir is to build and operate in harmony with nature and the human understanding of the physical and cultural life.
II. The village and immigrant’s stone tidal weir livelihood tells the possibility of the history of coast communication and agriculture, fisheries and immigrant life.
III. The mouth of Tamsui River’s unique scale stone tidal weir appears unique clustering principle.
IV. The north shore of Kuroshio estuary’s algal reefs and igneous become the perfect combination of northern coast stone tidal weir landscape geographical conditions.
