碩士 / 醒吾科技大學 / 觀光休閒系所 / 103 / Taiwan’s recreational industry has been blooming since 2004. Surrounded by ocean and rich in marine natural resources, Taiwan has the potential to become a vacation hot spot for international travelers. For island countries in tropical regions, recreational activities in open water have already become one of the major choices made by tourists. The marketing and promotion of recreational water tourism have also been listed as a key issue for the development of tourism economy in island countries.
The aim of this paper is to explore the history and current status of SCUBA diving activities, and its relation to business industry, along with possible directions for future development. The method of this research is a qualitative research method called “in-depth interview”, using a standardized semi-open interview(half-structured style). Interviewees in related fields such as divers, business owners, experts, scholars, and of-ficials are invited for a talk. The content of the interviews are then transcribed into text and coded for evaluation. Common findings can be divided into five topics: the impact and development of SCUBA diving industry, growth of SCUBA diving tourism, policies for conservation in diving tourism, policies for diving education in tourism industry, and policies for conservation in diving tourism industry.
