Improve paint industry wastewaterdischarge-For example a paint industry in southern Taiwan / 改善製漆工廠廢水產出-以南部某製漆公司為例

碩士 / 義守大學 / 工業管理學系 / 103 / In recent years, major environmental pollution incidents have significantly impacted Taiwan, with a majority of incidents centered in southern Taiwan. First, toxic chemical waste was found deliberately dumped into the Er-Lun creek. Then, another assembly plant recklessly dumped effluents into the Houjin River. At the same time, aerial photography documentary “Beyond Beauty: Taiwan from Above” raised widespread public awareness with its harrowing images of industrial environmental malpractice. These examples clearly indicate that Taiwan’s industries’ have long neglected social responsibility.
This project’s targets the most well established and productive paint manufacturers in Taiwan. Over the years many equipment have badly worn out and thus unable to successfully achieve effluent standards. Moreover, the owner still considers rebuilding new plants on top of the original land because the original equipments are still fully in place.
This project analyzed a certain paint manufacturer located in southern Taiwan based on its efficiency evaluation, quality control standards and water meter readings. After evaluating protocol designs from industrial waste water disposal vendors and protocols from other paint manufacturers, we designed the most optimal protocol suited for our research target. It was comparable with our vendors and businesses competitors and will also include two fewer steps.
This project designed waste water disposal equipment for our target subject based on a self-designed protocol and jar test results. We applied jar test results using the actual equipment, and increased the scale by 1000, 3000 and 5000 folds. Result showed that an increase of 3000 folds using our protocol not only achieved national effluent standards, but also provided lower costs than our competitors’ waste water treatment processes. This shows that our design could definitely assist our research target in complying with effluent standards and alleviating waste water management difficulties.
