Historic Preservation Research Kuoguang War Plan – Take Kinmen Main Landing Boat Tunnels / 國光計畫之史蹟保存研究-以金門登陸艇坑道為主

碩士 / 國立金門大學 / 建築學系 / 103 / The Chinese civil war, the Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) got lost, so Mr. Chiang Kai Shek brought millions of militaries come to Taiwan and never get back to China. To him, China is his real hometown, so he started the Kuoguang War Plan, which means to attack China behind closed doors at the 50th times of the Republic Era. He built four tunnels at that time -the Jhaishan Tunnel (Including the Mt. Da Mao Tunnel), the Golden Whale Tunnel, the Fishing Village Tunnel, and the Jiugong Tunnel (The Siwei Tunnel). The four tunnels also called the Landing Boat Tunnels because they had great capacities for the landing boats.
Because of the ambition and self-economic issues in China, the plan looked perfect and without blemish at first. But when the maneuver defeated, the warship were attacked and sank, and the U.S didn’t support the plan, the war plan got nothing, so the four tunnels became unnecessary. At the 70th times, the tunnels were hard-handled, and China’s military power got better, the tunnels looked obsoletely, so the Jhaishan Tunnel and Jiugong Tunnel transferred the executive power to Kinmen National Park, and the Mt. Da Mao Tunnel and Fishing Village Tunnel shut down provisionally, the Golden Whale Tunnel is still used by the Army 101st Amphibious Reconnaissance Battalion now.
Even the four landing boat tunnels lost their military values today, but this study expects to use the view of architecture connects the oral history, review of literature, and the actual situation investigation to increase the understanding of multi-dimension history. This study gathers as much correct data as possible about protection, preservation, and reuse issues, and it contrasts the importance of war history and shows the possibility to join in world heritage. The study can contribute values for the culture heritage preservation.
