碩士 / 崑山科技大學 / 環境工程研究所 / 104 / Cladophora widely lives in freshwater and marine habitats which often becomes the dominant species. In freshwater systems in Taiwan, the most common species of Cladophora is C. glomerata. In order to understand the effects of different levels of salinity on extracellular polymeric substances and epiphytic algae, an experiment was designed using river water with NaCl concentrations of 0.5‰, 1.0‰, 3.0‰, 5.0‰, 10.0‰, 20.0‰ and 30.0‰. The specimens of C. glomerata were cultured and then selected for the experiment using the method described in experimental methods. The variation of mucilage thickness at different times and under different levels of salinity were observed. After 24 hours, when the salinity is above 3.0‰, the thickness of mucilage layer of C. glomerata rapidly thickens. Regardless of LB-EPS or TB-EPS, the amount of extracellular polymeric substances increased, but the content variation of protein and polysaccharides increased with salinity and culture time. The content of protein increase leads to an increase in the the ratio of protein to polysaccharides, while the ratio of LB-EPS to TB-EPS is smaller.
