The current military service system is in the process of transferring from the “recruitment supplemented bydrafting” towards the total military recruitment system. How to attract ambitious young people to join the army through developing effective recruitment policies, marketing approaches, welfare, and supporting measures is the key success factor of the volunteer soldier recruitment system promoted by the national army. Therefore, this study aims to explore the influence of related variable factors, such as draftee’s personal attributes, internal influencing factors and external environmental influencing factors on the application decision.
The subjects of this study were draftees of the Marine RecruitTraining Center of the Marine Corps. A questionnaire survey was conducted on 540 draftees under training. The results showed that the draftee’s personal attributes (educational background, siblings as volunteer soldiers, peersas volunteer soldiers, family income, and wheterh being the only child), internal influencing factors (self-characteristics and needs satisfaction), and external environmental influencing factors (interpersonal communication) are the important factorsdetermining the application decision behavior. Based on the results, it is suggested that the decision-making unit should propose favorable recruiting conditions, provide a reasonable salary structure, and improve the working environment. Moreover, this study also suggests that the recruitment unit should improve the quality of the recruitment personnel and strengthen the Internet marketing approach.
