A Creative Study of Public Welfare Poster with Applying Narrative Theories / 應用敘事理論於公益海報之創作研究

碩士 / 明志科技大學 / 視覺傳達設計系碩士班 / 103 / Emerging with the rise of structuralism, narratology is a theory used to analyze the stylistic structure of myths or stories. Despite the rapid advancements of our time, narrative theories have not evolved beyond the scope of literary forms. This study reviews literature from a design perspective, attempting to apply narratology to designing public interest posters. It aims to contribute to current graphic design education by constructing a narrative model for public interest poster design.
This study sampled 16 public interest posters covering eight themes of public interest. On the basis of Bremond’s narrative theory, theoretical analyses were conducted to construct four models of poster design: (1) Public interest posters must contain narrative symbols related to “behaviors.” (2) “Desire” is used to complement the inadequacy of the “behavior-induction” account. (3) Narrative symbols convey “character development” in a public interest poster. (4) The narrative “results” of public interest posters are determined by the viewers.
According to the discussed narrative model for public interest posters, this study created eight public interest posters and submitted them to a poster contest, thereby verifying the feasibility of the proposed narrative model. Experts reviewed the posters, which received favorable assessments. In conclusion, from the numerous design methods available, adopting a logical and systematic design approach can inspire increasing creative methods for graphic design education.
