碩士 / 國立高雄海洋科技大學 / 航運管理研究所 / 103 / There are many perils during the voyage such as accidents or damaged items. Ship is the most important transportation on the sea. As time changes, the S.G. form is no longer required, which was revised by Institute of London Underwriters. In order to guarantee insured’s rights and interests, Institute Time Clauses (ITC-1983) is now internationally accepted which have been through a few major amendments in 1995,2002,2003, but it did not replace the ITC-1983.
Choosing the right insurance clause is the most important criteria in insuring shipped product to ensure safety and reliability. ITC-1983 adopt named perils to cover perils, therefor, accidents or damages should be clearly stated in the policy. In this manner, in case of any untoward incidents while transporting the goods by sea, the insured company shall be well compensated from the insurer. In addition, the insured company should be very much familiar with ITC-1983 coverage in order to get sufficient claims in the future or in case of any jeopardy. Claims Officer of the ship must clearly understand the coverage in order to find the root cause of any accidents or damages.
In recent years, there are many different clauses that has been gradually implemented. Their clauses have their distinctive features. This study is based on the ITC-1983. It compares the top five hull insurances in the world. The conclusion of this study generalized the difference between them and provided further information for the users of the hull insurance.
