The Influence of Population Density on Performance of Transportation – an evidence from used transport market in Taipei, New Taipei and Kaohsiung city / 以地區人口密度觀點探討運輸系統經營成效-以台北市、新北市、高雄市為例

vehicle and performance of transportation. This study suggest that population density as one of the district’s specialty can represent the demand for transporting can also moderate the influence of transportation system on performance of transportation.Therefore, this study applies hierarchical linear model to explain the used transport market in Taipei, new Taipei and Kaohsiung city, taking transportation system, conveyance structural characteristics and demographic characteristics into account simultaneously to explore their impact on performance of transportation system.

The results show that, there are significant differences among district’s transporting performance, and 80%-90% of the differences are caused by characteristics of district. The explanatory power of regional characteristics to the performance of transportation
system, are higher than variable of individual level. Interaction of transportation system and regional demographic characteristics have a significant effect on
performance of transportation. According to the empirical results, this study submit proposal for urban transportation development to the government and future research.
