碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 航運管理學系 / 103 / The dominant way to transport cargo globally is container shipping; the market is very competitive due to only few liner shipping companies are running such a costly business. In this oligopoly market, the operating performance of liner shipping companies is playing an important role. Therefore, this study applies slack-based measure dynamic network data envelopment analysis (SBM-DNDEA) to analyze the performance of major liner shipping companies in the industry. In addition to measuring the overall efficiency like traditional DEA models, the efficiency of each year and division are also measured with links and carry-over activities. This study adopts the leased TEU in service, operating expense, number of employee, container lifting, operating revenue and owned TEU in service as inputs, output, links and carry-over variables for each decision making units (DMU). Moreover, the production process of a liner shipping company is decomposed into two divisions: the production division and marketing division. The result of this study provides an appraisal of the efficiency of major liner shipping companies from the perspective of each divisions and overall operation.
