碩士 / 國立臺北教育大學 / 自然科學教育學系 / 103 / This study is aimed to investigate the effectiveness on the learning achievement of the third-grade students and their attitude toward ocean conservation through marine education activities designed by the researcher. The research subjects are 56 third graders from two classes of an elementary school in Taipei. These third graders were taken to Tamsui to experience the river cruise and visit the fish ball factory. The duration of all teaching activities is approximately 8 weeks divided into 10 periods.
The research method used in this study was one group pretest-posttest
designed method. The quantitative study instruments included “Knowledge of
Marine Education Achievement Test” and “Attitude of Marine Education Scale” while the qualitative data included the journal of the researcher’s reflections, the students’ work sheetsand the students’ feedbacks. After the triangulation of
quantitative and qualitative data, the research obtained the following results.
1. Third-grade students had an obvious improvement on marine education
after involved in the marine education teaching activities.
2. Third-grade students had a more positive attitude toward ocean
conservation through marine education activities.
3. The conclusion of this research comes out with several suggestions: first, we should add the topic with marine lives to the course design.
The qualitative data also indicated that Marine Education would increase school children’s consideration for ocean environment issues, and multi teaching-methodology would raise their interests and motivation in study.
The conclusion of this research comes out with several suggestions:
1. Definite competence indicators for each learning stage have been established in marine education. Teachers are encouraged to apply it more and to make marine education activities rooted in elementary school.
2. Much marine-related knowledge is actually implicit in Science and Technology. If the course designs can be extended, it will widen and lengthen school children’s learning.
3. Field trip and on-site experience should be promoted. For the school children, learning from the practical experience will increase their study interests and impression.
