consumer expects better customer service from service providers as well. Faced
with rapid changes in the external environment, automotive companies have to
keep up with the changes and adjust their business strategies in order to survive
in the industry. To achieve sustained growth, many companies have changed
their business models. In recent years, diversification, internationalization and
technological growths have been major global trends. Diversification has
become one of the main strategies employed by companies to spread their risks
and obtain higher profit margins. In our case study, apart from strengthening its
core competency of logistics, the company also sought to increase its business
performance via diversification, becoming more competitive and retaining
customer loyalty. This paper uses the case study method to analyze the internal
and external challenges faced by the company, how it used diversification to
increase its business performance and achieve sustained growth, as well as
studying how to implement diversification.
This paper concludes that:
1. An organization needs to craft its diversification strategy around its
core competencies in order to succeed.
2. In the case study, the company managed to improve its business
performance through diversification and achieved sustained growth.
3. In the case study, in order to improve customer satisfaction, the
company diversified their business through vertical integration.
4. In the case study, the company made its diversification strategy
decisions based on related diversification. As they were able to utilize
their strengths in resource management, they were able to improve the company’s performance.
5. In the case study, non-related diversification ventures were ineffective
in improving performance.
