The Study of Promoting Learning Community Pilot Program in Hsinchu County / 新竹縣中小學推動學習共同體實驗試辦計畫之研究

碩士 / 靜宜大學 / 教育研究所 / 103 / The current study aimed to investigate the status quo of the implementation of the Learning Community Preliminary Plan by elementary and secondary schools in Hsinchu County. With the interview and participation in class observation and course discussion where the participants shared their hands-on experiences, the researcher concluded with the promotion progress, effectiveness, challenges and suggestions related to learning community. A semi-structured interview was adopted in the current study, focusing on one junior high school and one elementary school in Hsinchu County. The participants for interview were divided into two types: (1) the principal and directors, and (2) teachers. The consent forms were collected first and the interview was voice-recorded, transcribed, and analyzed to yield results and subsequent suggestions. The results of the current study were as follows:
1. The promotion of the learning community was based on the Teacher Evaluation for Professional Development, followed by the principal’s gradual arrangement and active planning of complete supporting measures, with the aim to generate teachers’ spontaneous participation, eventually fulfill the triad in lesson study, increase teachers’ professional communication, and gradually unite teachers’ consensus of learning community.
2. After practicing learning community, teachers were willing to modify the instructions and assessments and to focus on students’ diverse learning and participation. With teachers’ guidance, students were more active and confident, thus enhancing their learning abilities.
3. The first challenge that the two schools faced in the promotion was the psychological burden that teachers held towards public instruction. Teachers self-perceived that they needed to enhance their abilities concerning raising questions and designing courses featuring comprehension. Therefore, the administrative should keep inviting experts to guide the teachers and slowed down the pace to enhance acceptability rather than discouragement. The second challenge came from the stress of not being able to keep up with the course schedules due to the implementation of learning community. Teachers needed to re-integrate courses with subject knowledge based on the curriculum guidelines. Thirdly, the educational administration should take the real teaching scenario into consideration and emphasize the trouble resulting from changes of the personnel and substitute teachers. Last but not least, for schools and teachers willing to promote learning community, it is suggested that partners should be sought for to accumulate the energy for long-term promotion.
