碩士 / 東吳大學 / 音樂學系 / 103 / The 19th century art songs attracted many musicians put on, Schubert (1797-1828), Schumann (1810-1856), Brahms (1833-1897), Wolf (1860-1903) etc.., Their works were well known in the music industry, but Shubert’s music has had a very profound effect on the development of song’ foundation. Schubert’s finest work was his songs. His sensitivity to words provoked his profound response to music. Through his songs, Shubert presented the equally-important and complementary relationship between music and lyrics. In his short life, he has created more than 600 songs. Schubert uses his imagination to respond to his poems, come into being a unique art field which combined with poetry and music, and amazing by their conciseness and concentration.

The author choose the work which themed by spring from Schubert’s numerous works and make discussion. "Spring" is always a symbol of the revival of the Earth and creatures, it is also one of the themes that composers love to create about. However, due to the countless songs about “spring” in Germany, in this article, the author is going to discuss the works created only by Schubert.

This paper is divided into five chapters. The first chapter includes research motivation and purpose, objects and scope. Chapter two is an overview of the Germany art songs during romantic period, including the introduction of the development of Germany art song, the background, the features and the structure of songs. Next, Schubert, the king of songs is introduced in chapter three. In this chapter, Schubert's life,, creation, and his style is going to be discussed. The fourth chapter is the core of this paper, four of Schubert’s songs about “spring” are going to be analyzed and interpreted. Finally, the fifth chapter is the summary of all the contents above.
