The Impact of Financial Tsunami on the Import and Export Trade of Taiwan Electronics Industry / 金融海嘯對台灣電子業進出口貿易之影響

碩士 / 南臺科技大學 / 工業管理研究所 / 103 / The Subprime Mortgage Loan occurred in 2008 in America led to a global finance storm. Taiwan, being a highly export dependant country, the impact was gigantic as the finance crisis spread to physical economy which caused deflation. This study assumed that the finance storm had an impact on the export of electronic device trade from Taiwan to America. The research period is from January, 2005 till December, 2014 and the export total amount of domestic electric industry was taken as the research object. The empirical analysis was carried out for import and export model of Taiwan electric industry respectively and through the econometric model the subprime mortgage loan crisis was explored to derive the factors and level which have impact on the import and export trade of Taiwan. The main conclusion of import and export was summarized below after performing the empiricism.
(一) Export Model:
In the VAR model, we observed the variable constant of electronic device imported from America and noticed that it appeared significant negative which denotes that the higher the import amount from America in the previous one or two periods is, the higher amount of current period will become. The impact of USD to NTD exchange rate on the total amount of electronic devices imported from America has significant negative relationship within both the sample observation period and the finance storm period. The Wholesale Price Index appeared insignificant in the first one and two periods in this research. The Consumer Price Index in Taiwan regarding the import total amount from America has significant influence by the first and two period of the lagging phase.
(二) Export Model
In the VAR model, we observed the variable constant of electronic device exported to America and noticed a positive relationship between the first and the first two periods regarding the whole samples during the subprime mortgage loan period. The total amount of electronic products exported to America was significantly affected by the electronic parts exported to America, however, it became insignificant compared to the result during the period of subprime mortgage loan crisis. As for the exchange rate, the impact of USD to NTD exchange rate on the total amount of electronic devices exported to America has significant negative relationship within the sample observation period and one period lagging in the finance storm period. During the sample observation period, the total export amount from Taiwan to America appeared negative significance subjected to the first lagging period of Wholesale Price Index. The personal income, domestic product and economic growth rate of America have significant relationship with regards to the total export amount of electronic products of Taiwan.
