碩士 / 東海大學 / 教育研究所 / 103 / The purpose of the present study was to explore the relationship between the difficulties perceived by student teachers while taking the practicum study and their participation in the peer community. The paticipants of the study were 165 student teachers from the Center of Teacher Education in Tunghai University who accomplished their study in the past 10 years. A questionnaire was used to investigate student teachers’ (1) difficulties encountered during the period of taking the practicum study; (2) student teachers’ participation of peer communities; and (3) the correlation between the difficulties perceived by student teachers and the participation of peer communities. It was found that overall, student teachers’ did not perceive difficulties in the practicum study. However, nearly half of them reported the lack of training to apply theories into classroom practices, and not being able to obtain adequate information for preparing for the test of Teacher Certificate and interview from the Center of Teacher Education. Student teachers reported difficulties about the scarcity of job positions and the frequent change of educational policies in their career and future development. As to the participation of peer communities, it was found that student teachers (1) often shared ideas and experiences with their peers; (2) often cooperated with student teacher peers in supporting school-wide events; (3) trusted and respected each other, and were willing to provide advices and suggestions; and (4) obtained the opportunities of reflection through mutual conversations and communications. Also, significantly negative correlations were found between the participation of peer communities and difficulties perceived in the practicum study.
