碩士 / 國立臺北科技大學 / 管理學院經營管理EMBA專班 / 103 / This study selects top ten global container shipping companies as our major research targets from year 2010 to 2013. CCR model and BCC model of Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) are utilized to measure the efficiency and performance. According to the research results, the top ten shipping carriers can deploy strategic planning and set up right direction for the companies to improve their performance.
The number of capacities and the number of container ships are inputs, and gross revenues and net profits are outputs to measure the relative efficiency of the top ten global container shipping carriers.
The results show that among the selected top ten global container shipping companies during the period of 2010 to 2013, OOCL year 2010 is the most efficient container shipping carrier. For those relatively inefficient container shipping carriers, this study also points out the direction for them to improve the efficiency by slack variable analysis. Moreover, the research results help the managers of container shipping companies to deploy business strategies and reallocate existing resources.
