碩士 / 大漢技術學院 / 土木工程與環境資源管理研究所 / 104 / The purpose of this thesis is to identify the causes of coastal erosion in Dongxing coastal region, which located in Hualien with 3.8845 kilometers of coastline, by analyzing the surveying data of 2012 along with cadastral maps and aerial photographes of 2001, 2008 and 2013.
Based on our study, Dongxing coastal region had 4.7643 hectares of land-loss and 12.27 meters of coastline-recession, 1.75 meters per year, during 2001-2008. In contrast, there were 1.9129 hectares of land-loss and 4.92 meters of coastline-recession, 0.98 meters per year, during 2008-2013. Overall, the research area lost 6.6772 hectares of land and the coastal border was eroded 17.19 meters backwards in total during the twelve years.
It is advised that coastal erosion of Dongxing coastal region is mainly because of those natural factors such as the Occasional Monsoons, waves, soil properties, typhoon, etc. As a result, the average coastal recession reduced from 1.75 meters in 2001-2008 to 0.98 meters in 2008-2013 is strongly believed due to the coastal revetments, protection facilities and protection works constructed by government authorities at the later period.
