The Vanishing Fish in the Ocean--Thesis about 3D Digital Image Creation / 消失的游動體 —裝置及數位影像創作論述

碩士 / 崑山科技大學 / 視覺傳達設計研究所 / 104 / It’s hard to imagine that the ocean was once deemed as a bountiful treasure that seems unlimited and inexhaustible. But now everything has changed—bountiful becomes barren, unlimited becomes limited and inexhaustible becomes exhausted. Especially the living creature in the ocean now faces the danger of extinction. The situation has gone bad to worse. What has gone wrong in the ocean? In this modern society, we all experience the power of advance technology and global economy that have brought to the world, but on the other hand, they have also caused huge damage to the environment. Human being is part of the whole ecology but now it plays the role of God. In the perspective of caring for the ocean ecology, I am going to express my interpretation of the situation through my creation of imaging and installation art.
The thesis’s topic is “vanishing swimming body” and it specifically focuses on sharks and tunas as the theme of creation. The goal is to look into the problem of mankind’s over despoilment and fishing of the ocean resource. My creation is to question and criticize current situation in hope that through my creation people would notice the problem.
My installation art combines projections, images/movies, shark freezers and tuna cansas a way to tell the story of the vanishing fate of these two creature. It warns and reminds that because of what we do to the ocean the ecology is in danger and out of control. In the movie the vanishing swimming body is being placed in a surrounding that is not its original living environment. The images conveys a feeling of “unfittedness” to the audience. My installation art and imagesexpress a feeling that negates current modern society and through the play of reality and virtual reality, the viewers experience the danger of the vanishing creature in the ocean.
