The Relationships Between Parent-child Interaction, Family Leisure Satisfaction and Family Life Satisfaction in Elementary School Children of Taiwan Off-shore Islands -A Case in Kinmen County / 臺灣離島地區國小學童親子互動、家庭休閒滿意度與家庭生活滿意度關係之研究-以金門地區為例

碩士 / 銘傳大學 / 觀光事業學系碩士在職專班 / 104 / This study explores the relationship between parent-child interaction, family leisure satisfaction and family life satisfaction of elementary school children on the off-shore island of Kinmen, Taiwan. The sample population consist of randomly selected 5th and 6th grade children from Kinmen’s five townships. Sample distribution were proportional to the student size of each township. A total of 675 questionnaires were distributed and filled out between December 2014 to January 2015. There were 602 valid questionnaires and 73 invalid. The percentage of valid questionnaires was 89.2%. The data was analyzed using SPSS 18.0 and the results are summarized as follows:
1. Variables in gender, parenting style, parent education level and whether the parents are new residents significantly effect parent-child interaction of elementary school children in Kinmen. Girls show greater satisfation in parent-child interaction than boys. Democrative parenting style do better then authoritarian or permissive parenting styles. Children whose fathers are not new residents have better interaction with their parents than children of new residents. Children whose parents have higher education levels enjoy better parent-child interaction.
2. Variables in gender, parenting style, parent education level and whether the parents are new residents diversely effect family leisure satisfaction of elementary school children in Kinmen. Girls show greater satisfaction in family leisure than boys. Democratic parenting style excel over authoritarian or permissive parenting styles. Children whose mothers are not new residents and children whose parents have higher education levels also show better satisfaction than their counterparts.
3. Variables in gender and parenting styles effects family life satisfaction of elementary school children in Kinmen. Girls show greater satisfaction in family life than boys. Democrative parenting style do better than authoritarian or permissive parenting styles.
4. Parent-child interaction postivley affects family leisure satisafaction and family life satisfaction. Moreover, family leisure satisafaction also positively affects family life satisfaction.
Finally, the results suggest, parents should adopt the democrative parenting style to build good parent-child relationship and arrange appropriate family leisure activities to foster better family life. The results also suggest, schools should hold more parental education lectures to enhance parents’ knowledge and ability, as well as guide parents and children to invest in leisure activities. Furthermore, the results also suggests, the government continue to raise the education level of the citizenry, develop better family leisure facilities and promote family leisure activities. This study also offers implications for future studies in subjects, variables, and methodologies.
