Study on the Daioyu Island Dispute / 釣魚臺事件之研究

碩士 / 銘傳大學 / 社會與安全管理學系兩岸關係與安全管理碩士在職專班 / 104 / Since Mainland China adopted policy Openness Development, its economic and comprehensive national powers have grown rapidly. While China steadily increases its military expense, the PLAN’s military development is also enhanced dramatically. Overall, China’s military capability accumulates in a speedy pace. At the same time, security relationship between China and Japan undergoes changes. Lack of mutual trust mechanism in the region further enlarges risk of regional conflicts.
Recently, China and Japan carry out various activities in waters of the East China Sea (ESC). Among all, the Chinese authority publicized its setting of Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) in the ECS, which had further elevated conflict over the Daioyu Island to a higher level of risk. The urging conflict over the ECS dispute has become the most potential hotspot which could incur mutual or multi- conflicts in the Asia Pacific region. The ECS dispute deserves further attention.
The dissertation will firstly lay out the historical background of the territorial dispute over the ECS, so as to deliberate causes of the conflict. Secondly, by understanding the developing process of Daioyu Island dispute, its circumstances, as well as respective strategies and practical measures of China and Japan, Taiwan’s counter-measures will be explored in the end of this dissertation.
