Loneliness of the Floating Village / 浮村之孤-重構三都海上聚落生活場景

碩士 / 國立成功大學 / 建築學系 / 104 / Sandu floating city is an aquatic village, which is floating on the sea at the east of Ningde, Fujian Province. A group of people, who come from towns around Fujian or even distant inland provinces such as Sichuan, Guizhou or other places, abandon the stable terrestrial life for livelihood. They come to Sandu, a bay surrounded by mountains, living a grazing life at sea.

Over the past two decades, Sandu bay gradually formed the fantastic aquatic village with the aquaculture technology maturing all the time. This special aquatic settlement lives and farms on the sea which is rarely seen in the whole world. Unique living space and spontaneous cultivation mode make the floating village far from land and leave the aquatic residents a lonely life.

This design thesis attempts to investigate the daily life of aquatic residents to get to know the material and spiritual needs of the aquatic settlement. Then I’ll treat the spatial distribution of the floating village in a new way based on the research before and propose a method to reform the aquatic settlement. For the scale of the whole area, basic infrastructure will be built with public space and trading market to improve the life system of the floating village. Meanwhile aquaculture industry system will be activated and new scenes of the aquatic life will be recreated.

Introduction
This thesis can be divided into two parts. The First phrase is the research of Sandu Floating village’s background, which concludes material life, spiritual life and industrial life of the aquatic residents. This is a theoretical foundation for following design. The second phrase then proposes the corresponding solutions to the problems summed up by research before, which has three aspects including the loneliness of environment, life and industry. The final design attempts to reconstruct daily life scenes of the whole aquatic settlement.

Materials and methods
The entire design based on fieldwork of a unique industrial village, following the process of concerning problems, raising questions and solving puzzles. Here’s the research frame of this thesis.

Results and discussion
The final result consists of three parts, which cover all aspects of life at sea. First of all, a new plan of the aquatic village floating at the Qixing sea area was raised according to the environmental loneliness. The following is a community complex at sea which will help aquatic residents get over loneliness of daily life. The last there will be an offshore market based on the declining aquaculture industry. The author look forward that these three methods would be the guidance of adjustment of the floating village transformation.

Conclusion
This thesis aims to keep a record of a unique aquatic settlement from architectural view. Through the fieldwork done before, these floating residents are facing three adverse conditions including serious ecological pollution, low living standards and declining aquaculture industry. The author hope to give suggestions of area planning and architecture designing to improve present situation from these three aspects and explore an new sustainable developing possibility on Sandu floating village.
