碩士 / 國立成功大學 / 系統及船舶機電工程學系 / 104 / Dashboards are one of key equipment in boats and have the most direct relationship with captains. Many researchers focus on developing a more vivid dashboard. However, functions of mechanical dashboards used in boats are limited and they have a fairly complex line connection designed by the original equipment manufacturer. In a boat, an electronic digital instrument panel displayed with a digital readout rather than with the traditional analog gauges is a strong trend. However the cost of designing and developing a digital dashboard is much higher than that of a mechanical instrument. Thus, small electric boats usually still use the traditional analog gauges.
This thesis uses a graphical user interface based on LabVIEW with several measurement methods to develop and prototype a customized digital dashboard on a small electric boat at a lower cost. The dashboard of indicators used by captains can provide navigational status and display real-time monitoring about the electric boat. In addition, the designed dashboard has equipped with a battery management system (BMS) for detailed battery monitoring and smart battery charge management via the controller area network (CAN). This is because CAN is here to say as it offers a good balance between performance and cost of implementation. Moreover, an accurate battery state of charge (SOC) estimation is achieved to enhance the performance of the battery and increase the security of the electric boat since SOC estimation is one of the key procedures in a BMS.
