The Sino-US relations in the South China Sea Issue through Constructivism / 建構主義論中美關係中的南海問題

碩士 / 國防大學 / 戰略研究所 / 104 / The diverse and complicated bilateral relations between China and the United States have profoundly affected the international status, especially the escalated tension in the South China Sea since 2011. Two countries continue to mutually implement provocative policies, subjective behavior and adjustment. Through the core concept of the constructivism, this study attempts to investigate the status and identity of China and the United States in the South China Sea region. It also predicts the future trends of dynamic situation between two entities in the international community.
The study found that China and the United States are currently playing the competitive role under the Locke culture. Therefore, in light of their own internal structure, and influence based on objective and subjective interests, each prefers to play the role that pursues self-interest, and manifests explicit behavior in response to changes in practice of policy.
