The Study of Effectiveness of the Action Skills Development Model on Forth Graders’ Marine Cognition, Attitude and Behavior– An Example of Marine Environmental Issue / 行動技能訓練模式教學對國小四年級學童海洋認知、海洋態度和海洋行為學習成效之研究─以海洋環境議題為例

碩士 / 國立新竹教育大學 / 數理教育研究所科學教育教學碩士班 / 104 / The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of action skills development model for marine environmental issue curriculum on the fourth graders’ marine cognition, attitude and behavior. At the same time, the fourth graders’ opinions about the teaching and teachers’ reflection and growth during the teaching process were included.
This study adopted a quasi-experimental design. The research objects were the fourth grade students of the elementary school in Hsinchu County. Students were divided into the experimental group (E) and control group (C). It took fourteen lessons to complete the experiment for E group students that adopted the "action skills development model ", and it took six lessons for C group students that adopted the general teaching model. The examination tool adopted was the “Marine Cognition, Attitude and Behavior Scale” which included the Marine Cognition Scale, Marine Attitude Scale, and Marine Behavior Scale. The objects took pre-test and post-test before and after the experimental teaching. Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, independent-samples t test, paired-samples t test, and one-way ANCOVA. The students’ study sheets and feedback as well as the recording of class and teacher’s teaching diaries were also collected and analyzed.
The results of this study are summarized as follows:
1. TV, internet and books are the major resources of marine environmental knowledge and information for the fourth grade students.
2. The fourth graders’ marine cognition is not good, but their marine attitude is positive and optimistic. Their marine behavior is conservative and neutral. They have difficulty to understand marine environmental issue.
3. Both action skills development model and general teaching model can effectively improve the fourth graders’ marine cognition. But action skills development model performed much better than those under the general teaching model in terms of marine attitude and behavior.
4. Regardless of students’ science grades, the action skills development model can effectively improve the fourth graders’ marine cognition, attitude and behavior.
5. The group E students show greater preference for marine environmental issue and marine knowledge than group C students.
Bsed on the results of the study, recommendations are suggested for future teaching and study using the action skills development model.
