Craftsmen’s Entrepreneurship and Project Management:A Case Study of Taiwan’s Yacht Industry / 探討工匠的創業精神---以台灣遊艇包工為例

碩士 / 國立高雄海洋科技大學 / 航運管理研究所 / 104 / Taiwan has become number four in the world for mega yacht manufacturing in 2016. The most important competitiveness is from the customized capability which is based on Project Workers.
We first analyzed the patterns of Project Workers followed by the development process of the patterns and explicit explanations of entrepreneurship of Project Workers. This paper adapted NVivo10 to analyze the scripts which were from the several interviews with the workers and managers of yacht factories.
Project Worker Group flourished due to the recession of shipbuilding in 1990. Some of the unemployed skillful workers clustered and the leader took the responsibility to find job opportunity for the group. The leader might contract with yacht factories to ensure work condition and to provide training to workers who belong to the group. We discovered there was no suitable or common Project Workers pattern. Yacht factories managers would discuss with the leaders of Project Workers to determine the pattern about the labor management based on the factories situation.
This paper inducts three patterns of Project Workers: teams, individuals and systematic contractors. According to this research, craftsmen and electricians present significant entrepreneurship and improvisation which are the core competitiveness of Taiwan customized yachts. Craftsmen with entrepreneurship and amoeba-like flexibility co-operate with factories to create both-win growing path should be the unduplicated advantage.
