碩士 / 國立高雄海洋科技大學 / 漁業生產與管理研究所 / 104 / Acetes intermedius (Omori, 1975) is an important economic and biological species along the southwestern coast of Taiwan. A. intermedius is primarily caught by the Tungkang sergestid shrimp trawlers; however, annual catches of A. intermedius by the said fisheries differ considerably. Therefore, this study used data spanning 21 years (1994–2014) to investigate the relationship between environmental conditions and the catch of A. intermedius caught by the Tungkang sergestid shrimp trawlers.
A. intermedius is caught between the months of June and October, when the rainy and typhoon seasons in southwestern Taiwan. In this study, statistical data including catch of A. intermedius, rainfall, river discharge, sea surface temperatures and chlorophyll concentrations of the sea area researched (22°–22.5°N; 120.1°–120.7°E), and El Niño indicators were collected for an analysis. The analysis results showed that the catch of A. intermedius (y) was significantly correlated with the fishing days (x); the regression formula was y = 18.408 x + 86.260 (R2=0.811). In general, the catch of A. intermedius caught during harvest seasons featuring the La Niña phenomenon was superior to that featuring the El Niño phenomenon. This study analyzed six sample typhoons that affected the research area during 2005–2014. Compared with the sea surface temperatures and chlorophyll-a concentrations of the research area one week before the typhoon, those one week after the typhoon all decreased and increased, respectively. In some cases, the aforementioned observations prevailed even two weeks after the typhoon. Concerning the catch per unit effort (CPUE), only one sample showed nonsignificant changes; for the remaining samples, the CPUE of the sampling vessel one week and two weeks after the typhoon all increased significantly compared with that of a week before the typhoon.
