Impact of Physical Activity toward Fitness and Self-esteem of Elementary School Senior Students in Chiayi Costal Area / 嘉義縣海區學校國小高年級學童 身體活動對健康體適能及自尊影響之研究

In Chiayi county, less than thirty percent of elementary school students committed to dayly physical activities lasting 60 minutes. The purpose of this research aimed to investigate the current status of physical activity, physical fitness and self-esteem of senior elementary school students, and to compare the differences upon students’ demographics. The questionnaire survey was conducted to 560 randomly selected subjects via stratified judgemental sampling. Of the 560 questionnaires, 440 were valid responded corresponding with 85.1% of return rate. The gathered data was conducted by SPSS 12.0, and computed by descriptive statistics, Item Analysis, one-way ANOVA and Scheffe’s methods(Post-hoc analysis). The results indicated that there were significant differences on physical activity, physical fitness and self-esteem among demographic variables. Based on the findings, this study suggests that schools and city government should work together to foster elememtary school studnets’ habit in physciacl actitities and health concept so as to develop students’ health and sel-esteem during the maturing process.
