Walk Along the Beach - A Narrative on Creative Works by Yan-Xi Sha / 海邊散步-沙彥羲創作自述

碩士 / 國立臺北教育大學 / 藝術與造形設計學系碩士班 / 104 / ‘What is Art?’ This question has long presented in history, and exists in my life. I clearly remember the word that the professors said in my early stage of postgraduate research: ‘Be the first beholder and writer of yourself. In fact, creator and beholder are two kinds of view, which often conflict with each other. Once they co-exist in the moment of creation, it afflicts more. As a immature creator, I reflect on they way they co-exist in the process of painting.

The spirit of the sketch is ‘observation’ and ‘illustration’. The questions came to be ‘how to observe?’ and ‘how to illustrate?’ Many contemporary experiences of seeing depend on image. Digital images present through ‘pixels’, I see pixel as an original ‘component element’, which weave the experiences of seeing into the image with ‘color-lines’.

Acryl is the suitable medium for me to carry through the concept above. Acryl is a kind of resins, it is miscible, plastic, and can be controlled precisely. These characters bring more experimental try in the art creation.

The work of art exist in the space when it was created——if we talk about Art, Art exists in the space. In my view, the space of studio for the creator is just like the soil for the plant. The dissertation collects my experience in creating during 2012-2016. I believe the experience of studio itself is important in my life of art creating.
