Application of Two-Stage DEA for Efficiencies Measuring of Insurance Companies in Taiwan after Financial Crisis / 後金融海嘯時期之臺灣壽險公司經營效率之分析-兩階段資料包絡分析法之應用

碩士 / 中國文化大學 / 財務金融學系 / 104 / The life insurance companies have played a crucial role in Taiwan financial market. However, under Taiwan’s open policy, insurance companies have been influenced by the international market to a great extent. After the financial crisis in 2008, there has been an increasing number of foreign enterprise exits, merger and acquisition in the local market, acerbated by the low interest rate and negative interest spread. The soundness of the decisions made by the life insurance companies and the improvement of their operating performance became the two drivers for this study. In particular, the operating efficiency of the Taiwanese life insurance companies after the 2008 financial crises will be examined and analyzed.
Through the two-stage DEA, this study aims to evaluate the operating performance of 24 Taiwanese life insurance companies during the period from 2010 to 2014. We examined these companies based on two dimensions: Marketability and Profitability. In addition, Total Efficiency, Pure Total Efficiency, and Scale of Efficiency will be used to analyze and compare the performances of these companies. Finally, the findings will be presented in hopes of providing the management of life insurance companies in general and the authorities with a deeper understanding of the market during their decision-making process for future policies.
