碩士 / 東吳大學 / 音樂學系 / 104 / Composers of Mannheim School introduced a number of innovative ideas into the orchestral music of their day, the innovations provided the fundamental to promote the evolution of the symphonies in classal period. As the most prominent representative of the second generation of Mannheim School, the German prolific composer, Carl Stamitz presented a great deal of instrumental music, among these works, some of his clarinet concertos are particularly commendatory. Carl Stamitz wrote at least 6 clarinet concertos, but somehow disappointedly that they are rarely performed now, even so, these works made an epoch in early classic era. Here, in this thesis, Carl Stamitz's Clarinet Concerto No.8 in E- flat major is taken as an instance to dissect the music style and the clarinet skill in mid- 18th century, the most notable era for establishing the class period. Clarinet Concerto No.8 in E-flat major is composed of 3 movements, indicates sonata, ternary from, and rondo respectively, the analysis of musical form shows that in all three movements, the melodic lines are rich with the innovations of Mannheim School, such as Mannheim crescendo, Mannheim sign, and Mannheim roll, etc. In next section, the interpretation issue is discussed, to illustrate how to use the modern clarinet interpreting the five-key clarinet works. Here, the thesis offers a good model to study the early development of clarinet, and yet provide more information to current clarinetist for playing ancient compositions with modern skills and emotion.
