碩士 / 東海大學 / 歷史學系 / 104 / This study is focused on the Tidal land development in Chiayi Dong-Shi during Ching Dynasty, from 17th to 19th century. Chiayi coast influenced by rivers and ocean, a large number of land floating that we called Tidal land(海埔地). At the same time, a lot of immigrants came into Taiwan from southeast of China .They used and developed the Tidal land, transforming it into the fish ponds. How did the immigrants to run fish ponds in Chia-yi Dong-Shi? How did the fish ponds owner transform the land when the geographical environment changed in Dong-Shi?
This study analyzed three parts that the tidal land development in Dong-Shi area. First, The port has been transferred from Pu-zi(朴子) to Dong-Shi, because the geographical environment changed by rivers and ocean in Chiayi coast before 1850, so Dong-Shi became an important port in Chiayi area, especially Dong-Shi supplied the fishes for Chiayi market and transported .
Second, the land owner transformed the Tidal land into the fish ponds and developed the oysters in Dong-Shi. These fish ponds were developed by share- holders. They sold the share to other buyers, and the buyers became the new share-holder and paid the tax of fish pond to Ching official. And then, they had the right to choose the member who has the skills for developing the fish ponds. They not only owned the fish ponds but also the oyster field and ports in Dong-Shi.
Third, by the 19th century, the geographic environment changed dramatically in Dong-Shi area, the land owner or share-holder were faced the damage caused by typhoon and water–floating. In many cases, the share-holders transformed the fish pond into the farm.
