碩士 / 淡江大學 / 亞洲研究所碩士在職專班 / 104 / This thesis has three purposes: 1) to collect context of LED industries and their development strategy in Japan; 2) to discuss effect of FDI on industiy’s competitive advantage by the case of Nichia Corporation; 3) to explain the policy implication to Taiwan LED industries. Indeed, given the double challenges of environment protection and energy inflation, LED industry earns much more expectation for their Business Opportunities. This thesis chooses Nichia Corporation to be studying case for the sake of its position of the first blue ray LED producer, which plays not only the leading role of top five LED producers, but also its several patents. Therefore, it hopes to realize how a industry’s transnational strategy effect its whole competitive advantage, by discussing and analyzing FDI of the Nichia Corporation. This thesis suggests that, Nichia’s FDI model is according with “transnational strategy”, which improves industry’s competitive advantage in following four dimentions: 1) economies of scale and cost advantage; 2) location planning and production layout; 3) network effect of global business service; 4) exporting specific competitive adanctage by patent lawsuit.
