碩士 / 臺北市立大學 / 幼兒教育學系 / 104 / This reseach investigates the attitude children have to the humorous presentation of violence in "SpongeBob SquarePants" in different gender, character familiarity, and the degrees of amusement. Research collects quantitative information by adapted "test of 'SpongeBob SquarePants' character familiarity" and self compiled "test in 'SpongeBob SquarePants' scenario", and supplements with qualitative interviews as information to annotate quantitative analysis. Research objects are seventy-nine kindergarteners, which include thirty-five boys and forty-four girls, testing individually and testing if there are marked differences to the attitude toward violence in gender, character familiarity, and the degrees of amusement by Independent-Sample T Test and two-way ANOVA.
Research has found that, in terms of character familiarity, children with high and low familiarity are more than medium. In the degrees of amusement, most children feel that the actions of violence in "SpongeBob SquarePants" are funny. In attitude toward violence, the degree of acceptance of violence in children is higher than the degree of numb to violence. As for variables, in terms of gender, there aren't marked differences between boys and girls in character familiarity and the degrees of amusement. However, there is marked difference between boys and girls in the attitude toward violence. In terms of character familiarity, there aren't marked differences between high and low familiarity in the degrees of amusement to the actions of violence in "SpongeBob SquarePants" and the attitude toward violence. In terms of the degrees of amusement to the actions of violence, there is marked difference between high degree and low degree in the attitude toward violence. Children with high degree are higher than children with low degree. Moreover, the degrees of amusement have no interaction with gender. In further analysis of two aspects of the attitude of violence to the degrees of amusement to the actions of violence in "SpongeBob SquarePants", there is marked difference in the degrees of acceptance of violence. Children with high degree have higher acceptance than children with low degree. However, there isn't marked difference in the degrees of numb to violence. The result of research indicate that, although humorous presentation of violence will not necessarily have the effect of desensitization to children, it has the effect of lifting a ban, and also influence children's attitude to violence. They will consider that if the actions of violence are funny and fun, the actions can be acceptable.
Last but not least, based on the result and finding of research, researcher makes a suggestion to parents, media industries, and governments, and also offers directions of research which can reference in the future.
