ABSTRACT
The current study aimed to examine the status quo and affecting factors of environmental education and cultivation among elementary school students in Guanyin and Xinwu districts in Taoyuan. With literature review to understand relevant concepts of environmental cultivation and research factors, the researcher used the triangulation design to implement questionnaire survey based on stratified sampling, specifically focusing on the analysis of the higher grades in Guanyin and Xinwu districts. Qualitative interview was also employed for data collection from volunteers protecting the Guanxin algal reef wildlife conservation, teachers teaching environmental education related to algal reef, parents, and students. The major findings of the study revealed (1) the shaping process of local environmental awareness and success of the Guanxin area, and (2) the interactive relationships among factors of “responsible environmental behavior”. This study provides educational practitioners of environmental protection with opportunities of reflection and critique, reexamining the essence of environmental education.
