The Impact of Overseas Branches on the Performance-Examples from Taiwan Banking Industry / 海外分行對經營績效之影響 -以台灣銀行業為例

碩士 / 國立中正大學 / 企業管理學系碩士在職專班 / 106 / Thanks to fierce competition in Taiwan financial market, and dramatic changes in international politics and economy, Taiwan government is actively promoting “New Southbound Policy.” The Financial Supervisory Commission is responsible for executing this new policy, “Financial Support”. It can be seen that the government attaches importance to Taiwan's internationalization. This study aimed to discuss the impact of overseas branches on performance using Taiwan banking industry as examples. We collected 38 samples of domestic banks from 2000 to 2017, and used Panel Data analysis and software SPSS and EVIEWS 8.0 to do quantitative analysis. The selection of variables is based on Sullivan(1994) multiple internationalization metrics and in reference to UN World Investment Report(2005).The study result showed that high internationalization has positive influence on performance. The expansion of bank assets scale and the lift of overseas profit have similar impact on performance. However, different from the empirical law, the lift of internationalization is not necessary increasing systematic and total risk. Last but not least, I suggested that the government, professionals and scholars should legislate laws as well as complementary measures when encouraging the internationalization of financial industry and encouraging enterprise to nurture highly professional personnel. The ultimate goal is to “widespread deployment in Asia based on strong foundations in Taiwan and be international in outlook.”
