The use of materials from natural Chinese herb resources in cosmetic production and consumption processes has become one of the mainstream in the cosmetic manufacturing company. Cosmetics ingredients come from a variety of synthetic compounds, which is important factors to cause skin irritation and inflammation. Therefore, Chinese herbs can be applied in food, medicine and cosmetics. This study used one of Chinese herbs, Houttuynia cordata, to characterize the different concentrations hydrosol applied in the cosmetics ingredients efficiency, and established a cosmetics test platform, including sunscreen, whitening, humidification, antibacterial, antioxidation and Gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis study. 2,4-ditert-butylpheno (hexadecanoic acid) is a kind of antioxidant identified by GC-MS in Houttuynia cordata hydrosol sample. Antioxidation analysis showed that DPPH could remove free radicals and improve reduction. The Houttuynia cordata hydrosol (dry weight/water ratio 1:5) showed 21% clear rate and 73.3 % reduction rate. Freeze drying Houttuynia cordata hydrosol with the 1:0.5 concentration showed 37.6% clear rate and 86.1 % reduction rate. The Houttuynia cordata hydrosol with pH 5~6 can be used in the cosmetic ingredients, which can direct contact with the skin. The skin moisturizing test in all groups showed that moisturization in 10 min rendered the best results. Houttuynia cordata hydrosol not only is an antioxidant, but prevents production of melanin by inhibiting tyrosinase activities. Houttuynia cordata hydrosol can be used as general makeup water and raw materials for cosmetic manufacturing. Keywords: GC/MS, antioxidatioln, whitening, antibacterial, hydrosol
