碩士 / 國立金門大學 / 管理學院事業經營碩士在職專班運動休閒組 / 105 / The objective of this study was to understand the development, efficacy, challenges, and future outlook of the National Kinmen Agricultural and Industrial Vocational Senior High School Dragon Boat Racing athletic program as a unique school sport. Interviews and the literature review revealed the following four points: First, the development of the National Kinmen Agricultural and Industrial Vocational Senior High School dragon boat racing athletic program originates from the presence of maritime-related subjects and related faculty and equipment at the school. Furthermore, the geographical proximity of the school to Lake Taihu and encouragement from faculty members have led to the establishment of dragon boat racing at the school. Second, the benefits of dragon boat racing activities include the cultivation of team spirit and cooperation between students through regular schoolwide dragon boat racing competitions and other competitions in Kinmen and mainland China. As such, dragon boat racing has played a significant educational function while also improving the visibility of the school and creating a unique athletic brand for the school. Third, the primary challenges and obstacles faced by the school in developing dragon boat racing are primarily related to funding, athlete sourcing, and a lack of competitions. Fourth, the future outlook of the dragon boat racing program primarily includes its popularization, the implementation of school policies, and its competitive orientation.
This study offers the following three recommendations on promoting dragon boat racing. First, the school should integrate dragon boat racing as a part of its physical educadtion curriculum. Second, the school should hold dragon boat experience camps and provide greater access to related school equipment to enable more students and members of the public to experience dragon boat racing. Third, although the school may require support from various sectors because of its remoteness as well as limited budget and few available competitions, the school should actively participate in competitions to realize the goal of promoting the school’s uniqueness in sports.
