In-depth interviews were conducted at the Northeast and Yilan Coast National Scenic Area to determine the personal factors of tourists and the appealing factors of the area. These factors were used to construct the motivation scale for tourists traveling to green destinations. A questionnaire survey was conducted to measure the effects of the motives for green tourism on the satisfaction and inclination of green tourists. The tourists' travel expenses were used to calculate their substantial contribution to the local economy. A total of 400 questionnaires were sent out and 378 valid questionnaires were received. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 20.0 to verify if tourists' inclination towards green tourism was affected by different push-pull motives and satisfaction, and also to understand whether tourists had higher spending power but lower environmental impact on the travel destination.
Research results show that the motives for green tourism, satisfaction, and inclination of tourists towards green tourism are indeed significantly correlated. In particular, the push motives "Take off and relax" and "Natural environment" and pull motives "Curious about green tourism," "Facilities," and "Loneliness" had a significant effect on satisfaction. The push motives "Increase knowledge," "Exercise," and "Natural environment" and pull motives "Curious about green tourism," "Facilities," and "Loneliness" had a significant effect on the inclination of tourists towards green tourism. Tourists with high and low levels of inclination towards green tourism had significantly different travel expenses, specifically the amount they spent on meals. Finally, practical and academic recommendations are proposed for the tourism authority and tourism industry based on these results.
