碩士 / 國立暨南國際大學 / 資訊工程學系 / 105 / Today, Google Map has become one of the most important tools for street navigation. These recommended routes are basically provided on a 2D planar map. In addition, Google Map’s street view further provides street images for improving users’ cognition of real world.
However, there is always a gap between users’ imagination and reality. It is definitely not easy for users to construct a cognition of an unfamiliar place by only watching these linked line segments on a 2D map. Many users may also get lost while they walkthrough virtually in Google Street View by clicking the mouse. Moreover, these street images only have one version, users can only experience one situation from the street view.
Therefore, in this project, we propose an approach for synthesizing cartoon-like animation for street navigation. To achieve our goal, we utilize the abundant resources from Google Map, and we use image processing techniques to process these street view images. The results of experiments have shown that our system can create interesting scenery with the cartoon-like effects. Furthermore, our system can successfully improve users’ navigation experiences through providing vivid animation.
