碩士 / 國立高雄海洋科技大學 / 海洋環境工程研究所 / 105 / The main goals of this study are to develop a real-time water quality monitoring system at Kaohsiung harbor and study the characteristics of water quality on the site. A real-time water quality monitoring system can fully catch status of water quality, save operational cost, and understand long term trend of water quality. The primary instrument used for monitoring is YSI 6600V2 Multi-Parameter Water Quality Sonde which can monitor water temperature, pH, conductivity, salinity, dissolved oxygen, chlorophyll-a, turbidity and tide. The study location is set at the outer harbor of second entrance to Kaohsiung harbor. The field work was performed from June 9th, 2014 to May 9th, 2015(totally 258 days). The results show that the tidal elevation is between -57.4cm to 74cm with mean tidal range 44.2cm. The tidal type is of a mixed semi-diurnal tide. The range of water temperature is between 21.5℃ to 30.5℃ in which summer is warmer and winter is colder. Salinity is between 28.46psu to 35.09 psu in which summer is higher and winter is lower. pH is between 7.59 to 8.47, without much seasonal changes. Dissolved oxygen is between 4.48 mg/L to 8.55mg/L where the highest and lowest values are observed in spring and winter, respectively. Turbidity is between 0.1NTU to 923.2NTU (where turbidity increased with some construction operations). Chlorophyll-a is between 0.1μg/L to 96.4μg/L where the highest and lowest values are observed in spring and winter, respectively. In particular, both chlorophyll-a and pH have positive correlation with dissolved oxygen. Two interesting events were observed in this study. In August 2014, a remarkable precipitation in Kaohsiung caused both water temperature and salinity dropped off significantly. In September 2014, turbidity increased abnormally because of dredging operation near the monitoring site. Overall, the real time water quality monitoring system is a very powerful tool for monitoring and management of water quality which in turn has significant contributions to the conservation of water environment.
